12 June 15 Making digital government experiences awesome.
Working with the government is something we love doing. That’s because these projects are usually the type that challenge us to make a difference in a meaningful way.
The Victorian Public Sector Commission (VPSC) was established in April 2014, replacing the State Services Authority. The VPSC’s objectives are to strengthen the efficiency, effectiveness and capability of the public sector and to maintain, and advocate for, public sector professionalism and integrity. The VPSC provides many resources and publications on its website to achieve these objectives.
Our challenge was to redevelop the online presence for the VPSC in a way that would guide people to the information they needed quickly and easily depending on what type of user they were. There were two parts to this website that were critical to its success: persona analysis and content.
Getting the personas right would ensure this website was effective. Without them, the website would be a labyrinth of information and no tour guide. Working with the VPSC, we identified its target groups as people in HR, managers, executives, board members of public entities and employees in the Victorian public sector.
As soon as you land on the homepage, you can see these groups immediately and select the one that you belong to. Once in that group, you can then explore the information that’s relevant to you without needing to filter through all the other groups. If you decide not to select a specific user group, you can also browse the site by section such as ethics, governance, recruitment or workforce capability.
The VPSC provides a plethora of information on their site. From legislative frameworks to codes of conduct, right through to recruiting for public entities. An important task of the VPSC is to keep all this information current. To make this content easy to find, we installed a custom Google search. Keep it simple, make it easy for the user to find the information they need.
The site is responsive and accessible under the WCAG 2.0 AA guidelines.
The new VPSC site is simple, clean and authoritative. It’s the go-to place for anyone working in the Victorian public sector. Check out the site even if you’re not working for a government organisation as the resources are valuable for private and corporate organisations alike.
